Second Generation Of Computers (1955-1964)

Hi Friends, As Yesterday I Promise you that I tell hole generation of computers and each generation per day. So, Yesterday I was posted about First Generation of Computers then Today I am going to write on second generstion of computers. So Lets Begin....

The second-generation computers used transistors for CPU components and ferrite cores for main memory, and magnetic disks and tapes for secondary memory, and magnetic disks and tapes for secondary memory. They used high-level languages such as Fortran (1956), ALGOL (1960) and COBOL (1960) for programming. Floating-point arithmetic hardware was widely used. I/O processor was included to control input/output operations. It relieved CPU from many time-consuming routine tasks. Examples of second generation computers are : IBM 1620 (1960), IBM 7090 (1960), IBM 7094I (1962), 7094II (1964); Control Data Corporation's CDC 1604; and Digital Data Corporation's PDP 1 (1957), PDP 5 (1963) and PDP 8 (1965). PDP (Programmed Data Processor) series is a series of minicomputers. PDP 8 was a 12-bit minicomputer. Its earlier units used transistors; IC version was introduced in 1967. Punched Cards and paper tapes and their readers were as I/O devices. Printers were in use.

I hope you understand about this generation of computers. So, Now share this with you Friends and Family and Let him know about the generation of computers. So, Tomorrow i come with Next Artical on Third Generation of Computers....
